This Weekend in the Cities
After being trapped inside during this Winter Blast, I think we all need to reward ourselves with some fresh air and fun activities. This weekend is full of great excuses to get together with your family and head downtown. I have compiled some of the best activities going on this weekend, including: Ice Castles in Excelsior, Vulcan Snow Sculpture viewing, Luninary Loppet, and the St. Paul Winter Carnival. Check it out!
Ice Castles in Excelsior
These ice castles are one of the most iconic winter attractions that MN has to offer. Professional ice artists combined thousands of lights and icicles to create incredible sculptures for you to explore, including thrones, tunnels, slides, and fountains that make you feel like you are inside a Disney movie. This event is designed for people of all ages. Watch as your kiddos glide down the slides in wonder while you admire the strategic details of the sculptures. For ticket and parking information, check out their site.
Vulcan Snow Sculpture Viewing
After a day of exploring the Ice Castles, head over to the MN State Fairgrounds to see the display of snow creations at Vulcan Snow Park. Last week snow artists competed in a battle to see who could sculpt the best creations of snow. This week they are still on display and free for you to walk around and enjoy.
Each year The Loppet Foundation hosts the Luninary Loppet where participants get the change to walk, ski or snowshoe around Lake of the Isles, carrying glow sticks to light their paths. This foundation emphasizes sharing a passion for outdoor adventure, specially with underserved youth and families. As you make your way around you will see Fire Dancers, the Ice Pyramid, Iceformance and many other attractions. You will also get treats and hot cocoa to enjoy, or Surly Beer at the REI Luminary Party where you can also enjoy live music and entertainment. Ticket prices range from $16-$32.
St. Paul Winter Carnival
As the Carnival comes to a close this weekend, be sure to get out and see all that there is to offer. Saturday is Family Day at Kellogg Park, with lots of entertainment including ice carving competitions and activities for the family. Later that day, the Vulcan Victory Torchlight Parade will be taking place from 5:30-7:30pm, ending with a fun firework show at Kellogg Park. On Sunday there will be a “Cinco de Mayo” themed Happy Hour, with authentic food and music for you to enjoy as we end off the Winter Carnival.
I hope you get out and enjoy the warmer weather this weekend at these awesome events!
