St. Paul Winter Carnival & More!

St. Paul Winter Carnival & More!

I know lots of us Minnesotans love to hibernate in the winter, but this weekend is full of reasons to get outside and embrace a Minnesota January. As you might know, the annual St. Paul Winter Carnival is coming up from January 24-Feb 3, which is always a great way to get outside and celebrate our community all week long. Aside from the Carnival, there are several other fun events happening throughout the Cities that I know you’ll enjoy! Read on for more details.

  • The King Boreas Grand Day Parade will be in full swing from 2-4pm on West 7th Street this Saturday, January 26th. Fun music and creative floats will surely entertain viewers of all ages as the parade celebrates our city. The parade ends at Kellogg park where you can walk around and enjoy other winter festivities throughout the day.

  • From 1-4 pm stop by St. Paul Hotel to sip on some hot chocolate and some pastries for a cheap fee. This is always a great way to escape the cold and warm up in the beautiful hotel.

  • Feeling competitive? Join in on the Freeze Your Bags Off Tournament starting on Friday and going through Saturday. The team fee is $25 and comes with 2 drink tickets to keep you extra warm.

  • If you are feeling like going all out, I suggest paying $50 to get a ticket to the 2nd annual Fancy Hotdish Competition at the Lexington. It can’t get more Minnesotan than that! On Sunday from 1-4 pm, local chefs are throwing down to see who has the most unique and tasty hotdish. Your ticket gets you admission to the event along with 2 drinks and samples of the entries. If that doesn’t entice you, I don’t know what will!

Other Events this Weekend:

  • Calling all wine lovers! From 2-5 pm this Saturday, January 26th, North Loop Wine & Spirits will be hosting their free Winter Walk Around Wine Tasting. There will be over 40 different wines for you to try, along with 20% discounts on your purchase.

  • If you are looking for a free family-friendly activity, head to Lake Harriet for the Winter Kite Festival. On Saturday from 12 pm-4pm, participants will be filling the sky with their colorful kites. Don’t worry if you don’t have a kite, there will be cheap ones offered at the event. There will also be snowshoes & fat bikes to try out as well.

  • The Powderhorn Art Sled Rally is an event that has been a long tradition of the Powderhorn area. The idea is that sledders create out-of-the ordinary sleds to showcase as they glide down the hill lined with an enthusiastic audience. Each year there is no shortage of eye-catching contraptions for the viewers to applaud. This free event starts at 2 pm on Saturday at the Western slopes of Powderhorn Park. Make sure to bring your helmet which is required for all riders.

I hope this was helpful in inspiring you to get out and enjoy one of the many events this January weekend. Please let me know if you went to any events by using #liveandlovemn on social media!
